Greetings and Welcome

Welcome to the Friends of Tackapausha

By Lorraine Bondi-Goldsmith

Hello and welcome to our site. My name is Lorraine Bondi-Goldsmith and I am President of the Friends of Tackapausha. I hope you will take a moment to look around and see what we have to offer, and perhaps become a member of our group.

Tackapausha Museum and Preserve is truly a gem in Nassau County. As our population grows, wooded areas and open space is becoming scarce. Finding a place to escape the noise of suburbia is difficult. But there is a place you can go-Tackapausha. When you walk along the trails, all you can hear is the sound of the birds singing and the wind rustling the trees. You can truly forget that you are in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Nature has a way of soothing the soul, of bringing peace. I think you will find that becoming immersed in the preserve, you will feel rejuvenated.

Our role as The Friends of Tackapausha is to assist the museum by running educational programs about all kinds of animals and assisting with events run by the museum.  Programs are designed to be both fun and educational. Last summer, our Pokemon Go! event combined an animal program that many Pokemon are based on, and the fun of the game itself.  We have an Annual Fall Craft Fair with vendors, food, fun activities for children and an animal program. During the year, we will be hosting a speaker series, highlighting the environmental work of individuals on Long Island and organizations that are involved with animals, nature and the environment. Our first speakers were Grateful Greyhounds, an organization that rescues ex-racing greyhounds and finds homes for them.

The museum offers many programs as well, including an annual Halloween and Christmas Party.  These events have fun crafts for the children, animal programs, a chance to visit the resident reptiles and refreshments for all who attend. Tackapausha Museum and Preserve is truly a unique place-and it’s right here in Nassau.

We will offer many more programs through the year, in addition to the programs run by the Museum. Programs will be advertised on here on our website and our FaceBook account. You can visit our page and give us like at

I hope to meet you at our programs.
